New York Times article releases results of study which finds that scoliosis bracing is showing positive results! An article published on September 20, 2013 shows evidence that wearing a back brace will slow the progression of the most common form of scoliosis in adolescents and help avoid painful spine surgery. We are pleased to say that our very own Patrick Flanagan, has been one of the esteemed orthotists that was part of the team evaluating x-rays and outcomes. Read the full article here.

If a patient does not respond well to physical therapy or injections, there may be an indication for surgery. Spinal Dynamics Joins BSPTS International Body of Instructors
Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School (BSPTS) held its first meeting for the newly formed International Body of Instructors in Barcelona, Spain. Cindy Marti, of Spinal Dynamics, and Amy Sbihli, formerly of Spinal Dynamics, joined therapists from Spain and Israel to attend the meeting held by Dr. Manuel Rigo. Instructors will be hosting courses to train other physical therapists on the 3-D Tratment of Scoliosis according to the Principles of Schroth.
Spinal Dynamics hosts first WI courses in Intramuscular Manual Therapy (Trigger Point Dry Needling)
In 2009, the WPTA (Wisconsin Physical Therapy Association) included Trigger Point Dry Needling in the scope of practice for Wisconsin physical therapists. Spinal Dynamics was pleased to be the first clinic in Wisconsin to host the series of five continuing education classes on Trigger Point Dry Needling offered by Myopain Seminars. Therapists from our clinic joined others from Wisconsin and the midwest to become trained in these techniques. Many patients have already benefited from the effects of this modality and physicians are recognizing it as a valuable adjunct to care.

Spinal Dynamics is represented at SOSORT (International Society of Scoliosis Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Treatment) during the annual meeting in Montreal, Canada by Cindy Marti PT, President. SOSORT is an international organization of physicians, physical therapists, and orthotists dedicated to advancing the conservative management of scoliosis through excercise and bracing. Cindy is a member of the education committee of SOSORT and presented on the positive results achieved with adult scoliosis patients at Spinal Dynamics.

Spinal Dynamics Physical Therapists were certified in the HVLAT spinal manipulation method as instructed by Dr. James Dunning of the Spinal Manipulation Institute. The course was hosted at Spinal Dynamics and was attended by 34 therapists from throughout the US and Canada. The Spinal Dynamics therapists were certified in High-Velocity Low-Amplitude Thrust (HVLAT) Manipulation of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine and the SI joint. More>>

Cindy Marti presents at Medical College of Wisconsin: Cindy Marti, President of Spinal Dynamics, presented "The Schroth Method of Scoliosis Rehabilitation: Challenging Current Thinking in the U.S." during the Grand Rounds of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as part of her continuing mission to educate other clinicians about the conservative management of scoliosis. Her presentation was well received by the Physiatry doctors at the Medical College and will enhance Spinal Dynamics collaborative efforts with them.
Cindy Marti presents at UW-Madison School of Medicine: Cindy Marti, President of Spinal Dynamics, presented "Radiological Considerations for Clinical Decision Making in the Conservative Management of Scoliosis - A Physical Therapist's Perspective" to the Department of Radiology at the UW-Madison School of Medicine as part of her continuing mission to educate other clinicians about the conservative management of scoliosis. Her presentation was well regarded and should be the start of future collaboration with UW-Madison.
