Our History

Spinal Dynamics of Wisconsin was founded in 2003 by veteran physical therapist Cindy Marti.  Spinal Dynamics has grown to include six additional highly experienced therapists – making “Spinal D” one of Wisconsin’s premier physical therapy providers. Body Dynamics division was created in 2004 to specifically serve patients with needs related to extremities.

Depth of Experience

Experience is a core strength at Spinal and Body Dynamics. Our therapists have an average of 20+ years experience each.

Cindy’s experience began with the development of the first sports medicine program at Appleton’s St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1987. From there she went on to multi-site management for Milwaukee-based Competitive Edge Sports Medicine. Here she helped grow the organization from two locations in 1989 to 10 facilities in 1993.  In 1994, Competitive Edge joined NovaCare, and Cindy assumed the role of general manager for the Wisconsin region.

In 1996, Cindy stepped down from upper level management to purposefully focus her career back to patient care. She remained at NovaCare and began specialization in spine therapy. Over the years, increasing numbers of physicians recognized Cindy’s spinal expertise, and her personal referral base grew. During her last two years at NovaCare, she personally received over 350 spine patient referrals. This gave her the confidence to launch out on her own.

Recognizing a Gap in the Market

There was clearly a gap in the market for creative spine-dedicated physical therapy. In February 2003, Cindy opened Spinal Dynamics of Wisconsin to meet the market needs, and realize her dream of a private practice.  The clinic was launched in a 900-square-foot subleased facility, with her former office manager and physical therapist assistant from NovaCare. On the first day, the clinic was fully booked with patients — and the momentum hasn’t stopped since.

Growing to Serve

Early in 2004, , Spinal Dynamics had grown to include three additional physical therapists and moved across the street to a 2500-square-foot facility in the US Bank Tower at Mayfair Mall.  Later in 2004, a new division opened to meet the needs of a wider range of patients: Body Dynamics delivers therapy dedicated to extremities and sports medicine.

By the end of 2005, Spinal Dynamics had a staff of nine therapy providers. Team members were carefully selected based upon their clinical expertise, commitment to high standards of care, and ability to interact effectively with patients and referring medical professionals.

In 2006, Spinal Dynamics expanded its facility to 6,000 square feet in order to house two new practice subspecialties, Scoliosis and Pelvic Floor.

Scoliosis: Spinal Dynamics has two of the first US therapists certified in Schroth scoliosis therapy.  This well-established European method uses exercise to slow or stop curve progression.  Learn more >>
